Kathmandu: Dr. Hari Uprety is a distinguished Nepali lyricist, author, researcher, and community leader whose life and work reflect resilience, cultural devotion, and artistic excellence. Born in 1976 in Bhutan to Ganesh Uprety and Damber Kumari Uprety, his early life was shaped by political turmoil that forced his family into exile. Like many Nepali-speaking Bhutanese, he experienced displacement at a formative age, carrying with him a sense of loss that later transformed into creative and scholarly purpose.

The Uprety family spent eighteen challenging years in a refugee camp in eastern Nepal. Amid hardship and uncertainty, Dr. Uprety discovered a deep passion for Nepali literature, poetry, and lyric writing. Writing became both a personal sanctuary and a cultural responsibility-an enduring means to preserve memory, identity, and hope within displaced communities.
In 1997, he married Radhika Uprety, and together they navigated the struggles of refugee life while investing in education and cultural continuity. Through determination and perseverance, Dr. Uprety pursued higher education, earning degrees in M.Ed., MA, and ultimately a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA). His academic journey stands as a powerful testament to lifelong learning and resilience in the face of adversity.
Dr. Uprety has made significant contributions to Nepali music and cinema. He has written songs for more than twelve Nepali films and produced four acclaimed music albums Karuna Part 1, Karuna Part 2, Prabhu Bandhana, and the collection album Purna. His lyrical work spans devotional, emotional, and philosophical themes, earning wide respect for its depth and cultural authenticity.
In 2009, Dr. Uprety resettled in the United States with his wife and two daughters, Leela and Laxmi. Based initially in Colorado, he worked as a community organizer and educator from 2009 to 2017, supporting immigrant integration, education, and cultural engagement within the Nepali diaspora. His contributions to literature and music have been recognized with more than ten awards, including the prestigious Diaspora Geetkar Samman from Geetkaar Sangh Nepal. Alongside his artistic and academic pursuits, Dr. Uprety is also an entrepreneur and organizational leader. He currently serves as the CEO of Omega Home Care Services, LLC, where he applies ethical, community-centered leadership grounded in compassion and service.
His doctoral research, Cultural Resonance: Investigating the Role of Nepali Folk Music in Preserving Heritage and Cultural Identity Among Nepali Diaspora in the United States, contributes meaningfully to scholarship on migration, music, and identity. He is also the author of Gunaso Gazal Sangrah, a widely appreciated collection exploring themes of exile, longing, and human reflection. In 2023, Dr. Uprety founded the International Nepali Lyricist Association and serves as its Founder President, promoting global collaboration
among Nepali lyricists. With over twenty-five years of continuous v residing in Ohio, Dr. Hari Uprety remains a powerful voice of Nepal borders-proving that displacement can never silence identity, and purpose, becomes history, memory, and hope.
