Kathmandu, Jan 11| The Schools’ Alliance for Academic Transformation Model United Nations (SAATMUN) officially commenced today at Brain Land Academy, Kapan, bringing together 42 students from 12 participating schools. The three-day academic event will run from January 11 to 13, 2026.

Organized by the Schools’ Alliance for Academic Transformation (SAAT), SAATMUN is designed for school-level students with the objective of enhancing critical thinking, diplomacy, leadership, and global awareness. The program features three major committees: UN Security Council (UNSC), Economic and Financial Committee (ECOFIN), and UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC).

This year’s SAATMUN includes several unique academic elements, such as crisis simulations, delegate orientation programs, structured debates, and resolution-writing sessions, aimed at providing participants with a realistic and engaging Model United Nations experience.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, SAAT President Binaya Shrestha stated that official acknowledgment and coordination with the United Nations House would significantly strengthen the academic integrity of SAATMUN. He emphasized that the initiative aims to promote informed diplomacy and international engagement among young students, adding that SAAT looks forward to continued collaboration and support.

The Chief Guest, former Ambassador to France, Mohan Krishna Shrestha, shared his experience of more than three decades in diplomacy. He encouraged students to consider careers in diplomacy and international relations, highlighting the crucial role of the United Nations in peacebuilding and sustainable development. He praised SAAT for initiating such a meaningful platform targeting young learners.

Similarly, Dr. Parasmani Dahal, former Secretary of National PABSON, laureate, and Principal of Brain Land Academy, remarked that the foundation of nation-building and global harmony begins with such educational initiatives. He lauded SAAT for organizing a program that nurtures future leaders from an early age.

The opening ceremony was attended by prominent scholars and educationists, including journalist, laureate, and peace advocate Saroj Ojha, among others.

The Secretary of SAAT Prashant Dahal stated that with active participation, strong academic rigor, and experienced guidance, SAATMUN 2026 is poised to play a vital role in shaping informed, responsible, and globally conscious young citizens.
